Sharing the Lessons Learned from the IMCI Application integration into National Management Information System (MIS)

Barishal - November 5, 2024—Save the Children in Bangladesh hosted the ‘Dissemination of Lessons Learned from IMCI App Integration into National Management Information Systems (MIS)’ event at the Barishal district of Bangladesh in collaboration with the Divisional Health Office, Barishal, to share the lessons learned from the integration process. The IMCI app, developed by Save the Children, aims to reduce child mortality by enabling health workers to assess childhood illnesses accurately, ensure appropriate treatment, strengthen counseling, and expedite referrals for severely ill children under five years old. 
 
Through collaboration with the MIS and National Newborn Health Program (NNHP) & IMCI teams, this application has been integrated into three government health platforms: District Heath Information System (DHIS2), Open Smart Register Platform (OpenSRP), and Open Medical Record System (OpenMRS). The collaborative process provided key lessons, experiences, and achievements at this event. Representatives were from Health, Barishal division, National MIS, NNHP & IMCI, Community-Based Health Care (CBHC), Civil Surgeon Offices from Barishal, Bhola, and gathered to discuss the impact and future of the IMCI app in strengthening child healthcare across the country. 

Shyamal Krishna Mondal, Director (Health), Barishal Division, said, “Barishal being a deprived division, I hope that IMCI App will be implemented in Barishal and  other districts of Barishal division, and I will fully support the initiative.” 

Dr. Muhammad Habibur Rahman, Line Director, CBHC, said, “If the IMCI app is implemented at the field level, it will be possible to provide quality IMCI services and help advance healthcare at the community level.” 

Dr. Md. Jahurul Islam, PM, NNHP & IMCI, said, “If the digital IMCI app is implemented, it will save time and it will be economically beneficial.” 
 
Sukhendu Shekhor Roy - Senior System Analyst, MIS, DGHS, said, “We are looking forward to Save the Children for taking the initiative to scale up the IMCI app integrated DHIS2, OpenSRP, and OpenMRS platforms nationwide. We will provide all the necessary support from our end.”
