Global Humanitarian Communications Manager

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for a Global Humanitarian Communications Manager to join our global team.

Team and Job Purpose
 

To activate our global external engagement during major humanitarian emergencies to drive global income and influencing to enable the greatest impact for children. Partnering with Country Offices and Members to deliver integrated communications packages at a global scale, that are audience focused, fast to market and aligned to our Global Engagement Framework.   

To manage our global external engagement response during major humanitarian emergencies to ensure we are timely, effective, and impactful. This role involves works across different functional and geographical boundaries to deliver integrated responses to maximise audience engagement, support fundraising efforts, drive influencing, and strengthen brand equity for sustained impact. The role works directly with Country Offices to deliver fast, effective communication packages for a global audience in response to sudden onset, multiple, complex, and protracted emergencies, to enable the greatest impact for children.

Work Pattern: Hybrid/Remote with flexible working options available

Principle Accountabilities

• Manage the integrated global communication activation across communications, media, content, digital, during major humanitarian emergencies, ensuring all messaging is timely, effective, and impactful. Acting as the humanitarian emergency communications focal point and project manager, ensuring integration and clear lines of communication.

• Coordinate with and act as the focal point for Country Offices and Members to deliver rapid, comprehensive communication packages for sudden onset and ongoing emergencies, ensuring cohesive global messaging.

• Develop and implement audience engagement strategies that support fundraising, advocacy, and brand equity, ensuring alignment with Save the Children's mission and values.

• Monitor ongoing and protracted crises across the external environment to horizon scan potential escalation. 

• Manage global communications packages for priority humanitarian moments and major anniversaries.

• Foster a collaborative environment that values diversity and upholds Save the Children's commitment to equity and inclusion.

• Monitor and evaluate communication efforts during emergencies, using data to refine strategies and report back to stakeholders, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability.

Experience and Skills

Essential

1. Strategic Thinking: The ability to develop and implement communication strategies that align with the organisation’s values and mission.

2. Global Perspective: Capability to understand and navigate through different cultural contexts to maximise impact and ensure cultural competence in all communications.

3. Humanitarian Emergency Communication: Expertise in managing communications during crises, ensuring timely and coherent messaging. Ability to work at pace under pressure, outside normal working hours and across multiple contexts.

4. Cultural Competency: Demonstrated understanding and respect for different cultures and the ability to work inclusively with diverse teams. 

5. Analytical Skills: Ability to monitor and evaluate communication efforts and use data to refine strategies for improved outcomes.

6. Foundation of Experience in communications within a charitable, humanitarian, or non-profit context.

7. Proficient Experience in managing communications during emergency situations.

8. Considerable Experience in working collaboratively with cross-functional and geographically diverse teams.

Education and Qualifications 

Essential

Education:

1. A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, International Relations, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.

 

Desirable

1. Recognised qualifications in media relations, digital communications, or crisis communications are desirable.

2. Proficiency in Arabic, French of Spanish.
