Saving Newborn Lives program (SNL) of Save the Children and UNFPA recently in collaboration with Directorate General of Health services (DGHS) and Directorate of Nursing Services (DNS) has taken initiative to strengthen capacity of Midwives to ensure standard newborn health care. A total of  2 batches of Training of Trainers’ (ToT) were organized for Doctors, Nursing midwives, nursing instructors and public health nurse with the technical and financial support from SNL where Comprehensive Newborn Care Package (CNCP) training material was used. The objectives of these ToT were to develop capacity for providing future training and to play the vital role for building capacity of midwives, mentoring the midwives to provide quality services and monitoring and follow up of newborn services of their facilities.

ToTs were organized in Dhaka from 24 - 28July and 6 – 10 August, 2016. A total of 40 participants from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, M. A. G Osmani Medical College and Hospital, Sylhet, Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, Rangpur Medical College and Hopital, Moulvibazar District Hospital participated in the training.

Dr. Habib A Sohel, Director, Primary Health Care and Line Director- MNC&AH was present and inaugurated the training program as Chief Guest. Professor Md. Shahidullah, Professor, Neonatology, BSMMU & President, Bangladesh Medical and dental Council was present as special guest.
