Mosammat Shirina Akther used to miss classes during her menstrual period. There were many adolescents like her who used to miss classes in MHA Secondary Girls Schools, Gangni under Meherpur district. Due to an intervention supported by Save the Children, situation has changed. Palasipara Samaj Kallyan Samiti is the implementing partner of Save the Children and they have been working with adolescent girls aged between 10 and 18 since 2015.

A total of 450 girls were provided sanitary napkins along with a guidebook. However, physical teacher Sadia played a key role in both motivating her students and parents. While delivering her lessons, Sadia explained different aspects of adolescent health issues. Mosammat Shirina Akther and her fellow students developed knowledge base and continue to attending school during their menstrual period time as well.

Sadia also took the opportunity of stipend distribution in order to build awareness among mothers. She got mothers motivated to provide sanitary pad in order to help girls maintain appropriate menstrual health standard. Families are now supportive and girls are now confident even during their period times.
