FIGO Ipas Best Papers Award: Learnings from Strengthening National Midwifery Program (SNMP)


An abstract from Strengthening National Midwifery Program through Save the Children, titled “Strengthening midwife-led services through mentorship at sub-district hospitals in Bangladesh” was accepted for presentation at the XXII FIGO World Congress’ 2018 held at Brazil. This global conference brought together over 10000 women health professionals from 148 countries. This paper has been awarded with FIGO Ipas Best Papers Award and presented by Dr. Rafiul Alam, Manager of SNMP in a special session of the congress and awarded with certificate at the Closing Ceremony. The paper described the effectiveness of mentorship for improving clinical competencies of recently deployed midwives on evidence based maternal and newborn best practices as per WHO standard as well as mentorship’s role in creating enabling environment and system strengthening for midwife-led services-a new concept in Bangladesh. It was a great opportunity to share Bangladesh’s experiences on establishing Midwifery services at Government system with the Global audience.
