Global Safeguarding Director

Are you Save the Children International’s new Global Safeguarding Director? Do you have a strong moral compass and the passion, drive, and commitment to ensure that Save the Children International, and its partner led projects, are unquestionably safe for children, community members, staff and volunteers?

Does the challenge of providing both operational and strategic leadership across a global matrix organisation, as well as establishing positive engagement with external agencies (Core Humanitarian Standards, IASC, donors, and statutory agencies), to ensure our Safeguarding objectives fill you with excitement?

We are looking for an inspirational leader with strategic agility, someone who is able to balance passion, focus and humility to bring people with you and leverage results through the global safeguarding team, and indirectly by leveraging the entire organisation, and the wider sector. You will need to combine innovative capacity building and development with robust compliance and accountability to children, as well as aspects of high-level advocacy and influencing.

You will also bring demonstrable experience of successfully delivering cross-organizational change initiatives, a credible record of accomplishment within child/human rights, an in-depth understanding of children’s issues within developing countries and the ability to think laterally and utilise your strong quantitative analytical skills.  

This role could be based in any existing Save the Children location and will require 20-25% international travel.

The Organisation

Save the Children in a federated Membership based organization employing approximately 25,000 people across the globe and work on the ground in 117 countries to help children affected by crises, or those that need better healthcare, education and child protection. We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realise the rights of children and to ensure their voices are heard.

  • No child dies from preventable causes before their 5th birthday

  • Violence against children is no longer tolerated
